Geophysics
Wasiu Olanrewaju RAJI is a Professor of Geoscience in the Department of Geophysics of the University of Ilorin, He has about 20 years university teaching and research experience across the United Kingdom, United State of America, Nigeria, and Canada. His research covers the intersection of Earth’s geophysical signal and the and the subsurface process and properties responsible for them with applications to Energy Resource Exploration, Groundwater development, Mineral Exploration and Evaluation, Environmental Pollution, Engineering Geoscience, and Artificial inteligence (Machine Learning). He has about 100 peer-reviewed publications and multiple patents. He has supervised undergraduate projects. M.Sc. Dissertations, and Ph.D theses in different universities and continents including Carleton University Canada, Stanford University, Calfornia USA, University of Liverpool, UK and the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. I’m primarily affilaited with University of Ilorin and have visiting appointments with Stanford University, Carleton University, and Conestoga College.
Prof Raji has served as Deputy Director, Centre for Laboratory to product – LAPTOP(2014-2017) , Centre for international education – CIE (2017- 2018), Director of Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme, SIWES (2018 – 2020), Head, Department of Geophysics (Dec 2020 – Jan 2022), and Postgraduate Coordinator (2024 till date).
Professor Raji is a recipient of NAPE’s best paper award in 2013, Society of Exploration Geophysicsis award 2014, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists Award 2014, Stanford University Postdoctoral Scholarship 2014, Exxon Mobil US Postdoctoral Chair award 2015, Stanford-USTC-MIT award 2015, TETFund research grant 2021, and NSERC (Canada) award 2023. Raji was awarded the best research innovation prize in 2023 by the University of Ilorin. He was the awardee of the Nigerian Academy of Science Best Paper Runner-up Award in 2025. Prof Raji is a member of the Nigerian Mining and Geoscience Society NMGS, Nigerian Association of Petroleum explorationists NAPE, American Association of Petroleum Geologists AAPG, European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers EAGE, and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists SEG.
