The Applied Geophysics programme started at the University of Ilorin during the 2014/2015 academic year. The department took off with 34 students and 6 academic staff. At the start, the lecture rooms, laboratories, and staff offices are located in block 1 upstairs. Full accreditation was obtained in December 2018. Hence, the department has graduated 190 students within 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020, and 2020/2021 academic sessions, and two (2) first-class grades have been produced to date. Lecturers in the department usually engage in meangful researches and collaborate nationally and internationally in the reaeasrch activities and have patented numerous inventions of Geophysics.
The department runs B.Sc., M. Sc., and Ph.D. programme in Applied Geophysics. This department consists of members with expertise in Environmental and Groundwater studies, Energy Resources and Petroleum Exploration, Solid Mineral Exploration, and Mining.
